coach, who was in Illinois schools for
35 years. He has lived in Henry County,
Illinois since 1990. Steve earned his
B.A. in History Education from Illinois
State University in 1988 and has been
interested in local history ever since.
In the fall of 2013, Steve began writing local history
articles for the Geneseo Republic and has been

He then began researching and writing books on the
hidden history of Geneseo and the surrounding area.
In 2015, his first book was published, Leafing Through
History: Stories from Geneseo, Illinois, which was put
together from the first local history articles from the
Geneseo Republic. Seven other local history books on
a variety of subjects followed.
Steve currently serves on the Henry County Historical
Society Board, researches past histories of local
farms, and does research for the Geneseo Historical
Museum. Steve just began working with the Geneseo

introduces listeners/watchers to stories that have
disappeared from Geneseo and Henry County.
This summer he will be sponsored by the Geneseo
Historical Museum in conducting walking tours of
the historical downtown area of Geneseo.
Steve and his wife Beth live in Geneseo and have two
children. Steve is still searching for his next hidden
